Malaga: The Perfect Place to Start a Spanish Adventure?

why malaga is perfect

Malaga has fast become the ideal place for expats to settle down and make their home in Spain. With its excellent climate, affordable living and relaxing way of life it’s not difficult to see why. This exciting seaport, on the vibrant Costa del Sol in Spain, is both a major tourist resort and community for people searching for a new life. Not to mention a place I’ve had a lot of fun in during the past year.

Why Malaga is Perfect for a New Life Abroad

The Mediterranean cuisine, beautiful beaches and rich history make it a fascinating place to explore regardless of why you are in the city. Many people are drawn to the area as they can find several of the comforts they are used to at home as well as it being accessible due to the thousands of thousands of flights to Malaga there are each year. Foods, television programmes and clothing are all brands that you will find back in the UK too.

English is also widely spoken throughout the area, which makes settling down far easier. However, you may want to live in the Spanish areas, which are more traditional. Moving to Malaga is a huge step, however, the more research that you do beforehand can make the transition far easier.

Huge Numbers of Expats Within the City

The city has a population of over half a million residents, and over 30,000 of these are official, non-Spanish. Therefore, you are likely to find many other residents in the same position as you, who are able to offer help and support. Whether you want to work in Malaga, or are moving to retire, there are several different things that you need to research well and ensure that you understand.

Visiting one of the many bars and restaurants that are owned by the expat community is often the ideal way to begin your journey abroad. Everyone is friendly throughout the city, and will be willing to help you find your feet, and establish yourself in the community. The huge level of help and support is why so many people settle in Malaga incredibly easily.

Events, Fiestas and Attractions to Get You in the Mood

The Spanish love to party, and at every occasion take the opportunity to have time off work and spend it with friends and family. You will soon discover that taking part in the local fiestas, is an ideal way to become part of the community. The Malaga fair is an exciting event that takes place every august and attracts people from all over Spain.

Alongside the fiestas, there are a huge number of different attractions throughout the city that are fantastic. Regardless of whether you enjoy sport, history, culture, or art, there is somewhere for you to visit. With so many places it can be difficult to list them all, however, the Cathedral, Port and Plaza de la Merced, are all must see places.

Learning the Language and Get Involved

You may find that you are attracted to the English speakers at first; however, you will find it easier to settle in, if you can speak the language. Joining a language course is ideal, and can help you to meet other people in the same situation as you. You need to understand that you will not fit in immediately; however, if you allow time, you will become a part of the community very quickly.
